An email from Edward Massey '64, Book Club Organizer

Yale ’64 Authors Book Club

May 22, 2021

Classmates,

Tony Lavely has given us great coverage and promotion in the online Class Notes. Sam Francis has provided beautiful front-page coverage on our website.  Now, with less than a week to go, we are inviting you to the inaugural event of the “Class of 1964 Authors Book Club.” This Zoom event will occur on May 27, 2021, 4:30pm EDT (1:30pm PDT).
The book is Founding Sheriff by Edward Massey, available on Amazon and other online bookstores.

Ninety minutes of fun and flexible give and take as we follow the flow of the story, the story behind the story, and the process of writing itself.

No one will check at the door to see if you bought or read the book. You will participate more and get more out of participating if you read the book beforehand, but don’t let that stop you from signing up.

The cooper, made sheriff in a high mountain settlement, faces the county’s first murder. The daughter of a fine ranching family is killed by her husband, and Sheriff Simms tracks him down on Bonanza Flat above the wide-open silver mining town of Park City. Civilization brings justice at a glacial pace while the frontier delivers vigilantes, Indian troubles, even a lynching in a hell-on-wheels railroad town. Will her mother ever secure justice?

Jan Truebner will moderate from the beginning, lead the discussion of the story behind the story, and carry us through questions and talk of writing — mine and all classmates’. All spouses are invited and welcome to attend with or without classmates.

Registration is required. Register for the meeting by clicking on the following link:

You will receive a confirmation email with a link to the meeting. That link will be unique to you. On May 27, you will receive the meeting link again. You will not have to hunt for it.

Because of mini-reunions and other presentations, our next Book Club will be in 2022. Let me know which books by classmates you’d like to see included.
