Yale 1964 Zooming into Summer

June 11, 2021

Classmates and friends:

Summer is approaching, with many classmates returning to travel and physical gatherings. The Mory’s group returned to an in-person luncheon at Mory’s on June 2 for the first time in fifteen months. Nevertheless, the ease of Zoom calls has given us a new way to connect classmates and friends, so Zoom calls will continue, too.

The most recent example is the first-ever “Class of 1964 Authors Book Club” that took place on May 27 via Zoom. Edward Massey gave us insights to his authorship of Founding Sheriff, and Jan Truebner moderated the discussion. Thirty-one classmates attended along with seven spouses for an impressive total of thirty-eight participants. We plan to schedule a second Book Club in early January 2022. So keep an eye on the Events page on our Class website for details.

In the meantime, there will be a mini-reunion conducted via Zoom on Saturday, October 9. We are calling it a “mini-reunion” since the longer format allows for multiple speakers and a wider range of discussion. Robert Whitby and Chris Getman have assembled a stellar cast of speakers to explore “The Yale Canon: Then and Now.” A registration email will be sent to all classmates later this month.

The Class News section of our Class website continues to add new articles. There have been ten articles by or about classmates posted since the beginning of May.

Sadly, fouir classmates passed away this spring. Click the following links to read their obituaries and remembrances:

The next issue of Class News will be sent and posted on July 10. Please email me with anything you would like to include.

Cheers,

Tony Lavely
