2021 a very active year for the Class of 1964

December 20, 2021

Classmates and friends:

As we end 2021, classmates are relieved that physical distancing restrictions are being eased. Despite the limitations on congregating for most of the year, our Class has been very active and productive. This can be documented in a number of ways:

  • The number of Class Events, including Zoom calls, in which classmates and spouses came together to share experiences (see a summary of 2021 events here);
  • The number of Class News articles posted on our Class website. With two weeks still left in the year, 115 articles have been posted by or about 336 classmates and 10 spouses.
  • The size and scope of Class Notes, especially on our Class website where the expanded versions of Class Notes totaled 38,548 words, mostly contributed by or about classmates and classmate events. During the year, the six issues of Class Notes mentioned 105 classmates and 25 spouses, on average, in each issue. You can look at the Word Cloud of the total year here.
  • Sadly, we lost 13 classmates in 2021. It is comforting, however, that all of our 260 departed classmates have been remembered on our Class Website / In Memoriam and with Mory’s Memorial Bricks.

Looking towards the New Year, we will be having our second Yale authors Book Club via Zoom on January 12, featuring Timothy Breen. You can register here. The Class Council will hold its Annual Meeting on February 19, also via Zoom. There will also be at least one minireunion held via Zoom in 2022, organized by Joe Wishcamper. Regional monthly luncheons will continue in the New Year under the leadership of Chris Getman (Mory’s), Jerry Flannelly (Boston), and Owen O’Donnell (Northern California).

Collectively, I believe we can be grateful for the camaraderie in our Class that continues to foster the sharing of experiences and bonds of friendship. Happy New Year!

Cheers,

Tony Lavely

P.S.: Chip Brennan’s annual Class Dues appeal was delayed at YAA, so you probably haven’t received it yet. If you would like to pay your Class Dues online before yearend, it’s easy to do it here. Thank you for supporting the Class of 1964.
