Sam Callaway '64 appointed to 1964 Class Council

Sam Callaway has been appointed to the 1964 Class Council to complete the term of Jim Baxter, who moved to Mexico and explained: “I have always enjoyed attending Class Council meetings, but distance will now prevent me from continuing on the Council.”  Subject to ratification at our 55th Class Reunion, Sam’s term will extend to May 2024.

In our 50th Reunion Class Book, Sam wrote: “Unquestionably, I have had a good life.  But, I wonder, will my children and theirs? The answer to that question is up for grabs, but if the struggles of our kids as they begin their pursuit of the American Dream are any indication, the prognosis may be marginal.  And for this I feel a deep sense of responsibility and sadness.”

In accepting this new role, Sam said, “I have always enjoyed keeping up with classmates and attending Class lunches at Mory’s.  I hope that joining the Council will provide even more engagement.”

The Council extends its gratitude to Jim for his many years of dedication to the Class, and we welcome Sam to the Council.  The next annual meeting of the Class Council will be in New Haven on Saturday, February 18, 2017.
