Class Notes

July/August 2006

by Tony Lavely

There has been a dearth of news from classmates during the past few months, so I will use some of this space to report on current class projects and upcoming events.

As I write this in early May, Tony Lee reports that over twenty classmates have signed up for the annual golf outing at Yale Golf Course on May 19th. News from that gathering will be reported in the next issue.

As you read this in the July/August issue of YAM (or sooner on the Web site), there may still be time to make reservations for the mini-reunion in Chicago. The planning committee of Chip Brennan, George Covington, Harry Howell, Bill Moeller, and Bob Reum has put together a terrific program, scheduled for Thursday, September 28th through Sunday, October 1st. Call one of them or check the class Web site for details.

Chris Getman has arranged for the production of handsome custom-designed class ties by Vineyard Vines. Supplies are limited, so call or e-mail if you want one. Cost, including shipping is fifty dollars.

Sam Francis, our class Webmaster, continues to give us additional insights into the "visits" to our class Web site. Currently, we are seeing an average of eleven visitors a day, of which eight are first-time visitors. The average visitor looks at about four pages on the site. We want to develop new features to make this site even more beneficial to classmates for timely news about class events and classmates. If you're interested in this project, please email Sam or me.

Chris Getman wrote that he had lunch with Joe Wishcamper, who is consulting with Yale about its long-term real-estate development. Joe was just leaving for a bone-fishing trip to Belize with Bob Kuehn.

Angus Gillespie surprised his wife, Rowena, with an anniversary dinner at Ruth's Chris Steak House in Manhattan in April.

Robert Hoskins wrote that he is currently Professor of English and Chair of the Department at James Madison University.

Several classmates wrote about "Taliban Man at Yale," on both sides of the issue.

Sadly, I report that Wesley Grant passed away in March. Memorial contributions may be made to Dwight Hall, Yale University, P.O. Box 209008, New Haven, CT 06520.
