Robert Wilson (Bill) Elmore, 66, of Madison (CT), died Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Sharon Dennis Elmore and father of Jennifer Anne Elmore of Newburyport, MA.

Born on November 29, 1942, son of the late Wilson S. Elmore and Barbara S. Elmore Baker, he was raised in South Orange, New Jersey and had lived in Madison for 34 years.

He graduated from the Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, CT and Yale University. From 1964-1967, he taught history at The Choate School in Wallingford, CT and The Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, NJ. After service in the U.S. Air Force from 1968-1972, he received a law degree from Cornell University and practiced in New Haven, CT, later becoming a partner in the firm of Gager, Henry & Narkis in Waterbury, CT.

Following retirement from the legal profession, he received certification from the NTL Institute for Applied Behavioral Science and became an organizational development consultant.

Bill had an enduring interest in education and served for many years as a trustee on the board of The Country School in Madison, CT.

Besides his wife and daughter, he is survived by his sister, Suzanne S. E. Huhn, and her husband, William D. Huhn of Guilford, CT, his brother, David 0. Elmore and his wife Kathleen H. Elmore of New Milford, CT, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 1 pm on Sunday, November 1 in the First Congregational Church, 122 Broad St, Guilford. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to: The Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, 195 Prospect St, New Haven, Ct 06511; The Nature Conservancy, 4245 N. Fairfax, VA 22203; NTL Institute for Applied Behavioral Science, Alexandria, VA; and the Future Search Network of Philadelphia, PA. The Guilford Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
