September 23, 1941 – May 9, 2008

Jim Richards was born in Dayton OH as James Allan Spicka, graduating from Fairmont High School there. He spent freshman year at Wittenberg University, transferring to Yale in the Class of 1965 as a political science major. Jim was a member of Beta Theta Pi. He did not graduate with the Class of 1964, but chose later to identify with it.

Jim moved to California, where he was self-employed in the vitamin and health-care products field, based in Los Altos. His first business failed, as did his first marriage. At that time, about 1982, he changed his name to James A. Richards, marrying Dr. Susan Lark, who survives him. She is director of the PMS Self-Help Center in Los Altos, a center that focuses on vitamin supplements, yoga, and light psychological help. Also surviving is their daughter, Rebecca Dawn, a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley.
