Joseph Duff Shuman died peacefully on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at the age of 74.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ann McMillan Shuman of Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania; his son, David S. Shuman of Nashville, Tennessee; his daughter, Lauren S. Floyd (Tim) of Delray Beach, Florida; and his grandchildren, Shane and Sadie Floyd. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret Cullen of Brooklyn, New York.

Joe was born December 27, 1942, in Pittsburgh, a son of Joseph Shuman and Anna Jane Phillips Shuman, he an editor and she a journalist for the Post-Gazette.

Joe graduated from Shady Side Academy in 1960, Yale University in 1964, and Harvard Law School in 1967. He returned to Pittsburgh to practice law with the firm of Thorp, Reed & Armstrong, where he remained his entire career.

Family and friends are invited to gather in the Parlor of Southminster Presbyterian Church, Mt. Lebanon, Thursday morning from 10:30 until time of the Memorial Service in the Sanctuary at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial gift to Shady Side Academy, 423 Fox Chapel Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15238; the Mt.
