Obituary

Albert J. "Bert" Smith, Jr., age 64, of Oakwood passed away Sunday, January 7, 2007 at his home with his family by his side.

Bert was a graduate of Oakwood High School, attended Yale University and The Ohio State University.

Bert retired after 32 years of service at General Motors. At the time of his retirement, he was the General Supervisor of the Physical Testing Lab. He was a member of the Model A Ford Club and also a member of the General Motors Retiree Club.

Bert looked forward to his regular Wednesday lunches with friends and former co-workers. Bert enjoyed cars, Ohio State and Cleveland Browns football, NASCAR, and loved vacations on the water with his family surrounding him.

Bert was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Lib and Jud Smith, and his sister, Tacie Smith Aber. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Carol; children, Scott Justin Smith of Kettering, Elizabeth "Lisa" Suzanne (Jim) Corcoran of Beavercreek, and Molly Ann (Larry) Riggs of Centerville; grandchildren, Alexandria "Lexi" Leigh Corcoran, Justin James Corcoran and Dylan Michael Riggs; nephew, Stephen R. Aber, three nephews and a niece, as well as numerous cousins. Bert loved his grandbabies with all his heart.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 12, 2007 at 1:00 PM at the Woodland Mausoleum, with Minister Keith Greer officiating. Burial in Woodland Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 5-7:00 PM Thursday, at the Routsong Funeral Home, 6 Oakwood Ave. at Irving Ave. In memory of Bert contributions may be made for Merkel Cell Carcinoma.
