Postscript: Here's a description of the event, copied from the October 20 email that you received.

For our first program in 2023, our Yale ’64 Authors Book Club has invited Russell Sunshine to talk with us about two writing projects — his memoir Far & Away and his blog Agile Aging. The Zoom meeting will take place on January 20, 2023 at 4:00pm EST (1:00pm PST).

Russell worked for 40 years as an independent consultant in international development. He advised national governments and international organizations on subjects ranging from foreign investment to democratic transition to post-conflict peace-building.

His memoir — Far & Away: True Tales from an International Life — features his long-term professional postings in India, East Africa, China, Laos, Central Asia, and Sri Lanka. You’ll also find a chapter on his and wife Nancy’s 15-year residence on an Italian olive farm.

For the past three years, Russell’s been publishing a monthly blog — Agile Aging — which he characterizes as a learn-by-doing journal. This second project’s core objective is to promote and practice a positive approach to growing old. Sample installments have examined crossing the retirement threshold, assessing senior-living communities, savvy senior travel, loss of loved ones, coping with COVID, seasonal reading, peer profiles, elder volunteering, and striking a sustainable balance between community engagement and personal serenity. For a preview, scroll through his Prior Posts for July 31 and September 7.

During our Book Club program, Russell will talk about what got these two projects going, what writing hurdles he encountered, and how he surmounted them. He’ll read selections from both publications and welcome your questions and comments.

Owen O’Donnell, our classmate and founder of the Bay Area ’64 Yalies group, has agreed to serve as moderator.

The Zoom meeting will be on January 20, 2023, at 4:00pm EST (1:00pm PST). Registration is required. To register, simply click the following link:
