9 Bay Area classmates discuss their most significant activities

July 10, 2022

Owen O’Donnell ’64 asked the Bay Area Zoom group: “If you were to consider writing your own eulogy, what would the most significant activities in your life be?”

Nine classmates attended, and we ran out of time to hear everyone’s answer to the question.

Owen O’Donnell: “I would write about my 55-year marriage and my two boys.”

John Wylie: “My career as a psychiatrist has been the most important part of my life.”

Ray Hass: “I would write about my marriage, my children, and my grandchildren and that I founded an independent coeducational high school in 1975.”

Chip Nielsen: “I actually wrote my own eulogy while I was at Yale. It’s in our 50th Reunion Class book. Knowing Bill Coffin at Yale was one of the highlights of my life.”

Mike Brodsky: “My work on the Hualapai Indian Reservation in Arizona after graduation shaped my life.”

Sandy McKleroy: “My family and my God have been central to my life. Singing in the Berkeley Chorus was pure joy.”

Russell Sunshine: “My work as a consultant in international development in Sri Lanka was a profound part of my life.”

Tony Lavely: “I’ve written too many obituaries to be too eager to write my own. I wrote obituaries for both of my parents and one younger sister. Also, for three classmates whose family didn’t provide one.”
