Angus Gillespie ’64 interviewed by the History Channel

Angus Gillespie, who wrote Twin Towers: The Life of New York City's World Trade Center in 1999, was interviewed in January and February by the History Channel for a 9/11 documentary ahead of the 20th anniversary in 2021. Angus’ book is “both a fitting tribute and careful analysis of one of the most resonating symbols in American culture.” Angus became a Fulbright Scholar after he graduated and went on to become Professor of American Studies at Rutgers University.

Yale Alumnus Interviewed by History Channel for 9/11 Documentary Ahead of 20th Anniversary

The History Channel has planned a number of 20th anniversary documentaries on the attacks of 9/11, a tragedy that shook the world. One of these is titled “Rise and Fall: The World Trade Center.” This documentary will offer a chronological look at the conception, construction, and destruction of the towers through an architectural and engineering lens. The documentary will cover the buildings’ historic timeline with graphics, expert interviews, and first-hand testimonies of the September 11 attacks. One of the expert interviewees will be Professor Angus Kress Gillespie of the American Studies Department at Rutgers University.

In a statement, Eli Lehrer, head of programming for the History Channel, said that chronicling and commemorating the tragic events of 9/11 was a priority for the channel. He said, “The History Channel has been committed to never forgetting the events of September 11 that changed this world forever by honoring the heroic individuals who perished or played an important role in that tragic time our history.

“Our mission as archivists of history is to continue to offer powerful documentaries with untold, poignant stories that provide a different perspective to that horrific day.”
