Class Secretary Tony Lavely writes ...

On Monday, February 12, 2018, I attended a Board meeting of the Yale Alumni Fund at The Yale Club of New York City.  Our classmate, Kai Lassen '64, also serves on this Board but was unable to attend this meeting.

Prior to the full Board meeting, I attend a subcommittee meeting of the Technology Workgroup which is working on the development of a new website portal for YAF Volunteers.

The featured speaker at this meeting was Heather K. Gerken, Dean and Sol & Lillian Goldman Professor of Law at the Yale Law School.  She became Dean on July 1, 2017, so this is her first year in the role.

Heather Gerken

Dean Gerken’s focused message was that Yale Law School can continue to be preeminent in an academic approach to the law, while at the same time providing guidance and support for current students to be practitioners of the law through involvement in current litigation.

Professor Gerken brings a diverse practice experience to the deanship, having worked as an appellate lawyer in Washington, D.C.  At Yale, she co-founded and is the faculty advisor to the San Francisco Affirmative Litigation Project, an innovative clinic partnering with the San Francisco Attorney’s Office.  She is one of the only deans to oversee a clinic while leading the school and the first woman to hold the Yale Law School deanship.
