Lee & Lavely (“the Tonys”) lead a climate-change Zoom series

July 14, 2020

Following a seminar about climate change that Tony Lee organized last May, he asked Tony Lavely to co-facilitate with him a redux three-meeting Zoom seminar, “Can We Stop Climate Change?” that was held from June 23rd to July 7th.

The seminar was organized under the aegis of Elders Climate Action, a non-partisan movement of elders committed to making their voices heard. Twelve people attended, from coast to coast. Many were very experienced on the issue. While it was not strictly a Yale classmate gathering, among the twelve participants were Sam Francis, Bobbie Francis, Margie Lee, and Pete Putzel. Plus, Lee and Lavely.

Tony Lee explained: “One of the goals of these seminars is what we call ‘The Amway Method.’ You begin by attending a seminar and then co-facilitating the next with a more experienced person. We achieved this with Tony Lavely attending the first seminar and co-facilitating the second. Two more three-meeting seminars are being planned. The first will begin in three weeks or so. We already have three people waiting for it. If you’re interested in attending one of these, please email me.”

Partially spawned by this series, Tony Lee, Sam Francis, Tom Barnard, Pete Putzel, and Tony Lavely have formed an ad hoc group that meets via Zoom to develop climate change communications. Sam Francis reminded us of the compelling presentation on Global Warming that Tom Barnard (at right) created two years ago.
