Tony Lavely ’64 honors 53 classmate authors on Facebook

December 31, 2020

Any classmate who has visited the Publications page on our Class website knows that the Class of 1964 has produced a prolific number of authors (80) and books (204).  And this is just since 2000 when we started keeping count!

You may have met some of these authors at the classmate authors table organized by Edward Massey at our 55th class reunion in 2019. I believe Edward is the author with the most recently published book. Stephen Greenblatt holds the record with twelve books published.

In late 2019, Tony Lavely (writes a lot, but not an author) co-founded a private Facebook page called “Yale Authors.” At the beginning of 2020, he resolved to post one classmate author (and one book) every week. Scroll down and you will find snapshots of the 52 authors posted this year. Should we apply for a Guinness Record? We have 28 more authors to post in 2021. It’s easy to join “Yale Authors” (you don’t have to be one) if you want to follow along.

Postscript: Tony continued this project into 2021 (see here) and 2022 (see here). Also see a relevant video on our Publications page.
