Tony Lavely ’64 reports on his daughter Vanessa's wedding

May 28, 2021

On May 28, on a Tribeca rooftop overlooking the Hudson River and Lower Manhattan, Vanessa Allen Lavely (Harvard ’04) married Juan Sergio Camacho. Sergio is a professional graphic designer and photographer who grew up in San Antonio.

Tony Lavely’s son Benjamin officiated, reading from the marriage ceremony book that Tony’s father used to marry Tony and Wanda in 1973. The only difference was that Tony’s father was an ordained minister.

Benjamin also carried the Bible given to Tony’s mother by her mother in 1937. The bride carried a lace handkerchief that her paternal grandmother and her paternal great-grandmother carried on their wedding days in 1942 and 1915 respectively.

The ring bearer was Vanessa’s youngest niece, Holloway Hillman Corbin.

Not even the spring rain spoiled anything; rather it prompted a “Singing in the Rain” moment.

There will be another ceremony in 2022 when a larger gathering of family and friends will be able to attend.
