Jon McBride ’64 reports a great year for Squash Haven

July 30, 2022

Jon McBride, our Class Council liaison to Squash Haven, reported a great year for this New Haven youth organization, under the direction of Julie Greenwood. Squash Haven uses the squash facilities at Payne Whitney Gymnasium and support by the squash team at Yale to mentor New Haven high-school youth, mostly from disadvantaged areas, to prepare them for college.

In addition to Class of 1964 support, Jon also reported that nineteen 1964 classmates donated a total of $6,000 directly to Squash Haven, for a total class support of $10,000. This total support moves the Class of 1964 up from the supporter category of "Sterling Friend" ($5000 and up) to the supporter category of "Leadership Friend" ($10,000 and up), as reported in Squash Haven's Annual Report. Classmates familiar with the great work done by Squash Haven applaud its vitality and results, even during the COVID period. They even teach the kids how to write thoughtful “thank you” notes.
