An Ode to Reunion Registration

by Waldo Johnston, Reunion Chair

T’was the middle of winter: it was dark, damp and freezing.
And all through the land one heard nothing but sneezing,
And coughing and scratching; complaints of frostbite.
Not to mention bronchitis — insomnia at night.

But while most folks were huddled all snug by their stoves,
Others ventured out into the drifts by the droves.
They were Yalies with courage and esprit de corps;
Guys of the great class of nineteen sixty four!
A class, so it’s said, with a well-known tradition,
Of service, bold action, and sharp erudition.
A class boasting talent and je ne sais quois;
Who retreated from nothing, whatever it was.

And so out they swept into weather most frightful,
On a mission to do something truly delightful!
They were rushing to sign up for Reunion this June;
They weren’t going to wait — they were signing up soon!

They hoped to see pals and laugh over stories,
Of road trips and classes and green cups at Mory’s.
Stories once lost in the thick mists of time,
Now brought back more vivid, enhanced and sublime.
They hoped to hear how their wise friends were assessing,
The issues and threats our good land are addressing.

They wanted to see all the new stuff at Yale;
New classrooms and labs — IT’s Holy Grail!
They wanted to feast on fine food and swell grog —
And, for a few days, live quite high off the hog.
They wanted to hear Whiffs sing ballads of yore,
And remember our friends who are with us no more.

And widows of classmates were signing up too,
They wanted to visit old haunts just as we do.
We want them to come so we’ve made them a deal —
Free campus housing! All events! And each meal!
They’ll be guests of our class and treated like stars
Since once they were married to dear friends of ours!

So, if you want to come to Reunion at Yale,
Send in the form that comes with this mail.
Or go to the website that’s referenced therein
To sign yourself up and get counted as “in”.

If funds are a problem call Jennifer Julier,
And don’t be shy — she’s not that peculiar!
She’ll be happy to help, no questions asked:
It’s all confidential from the first to the last.

You can also log on our own class website —
Thanks to Sam, it’s open all day and all night!
It will tell you our plans and give info galore.
All the stuff you will need — and then even more.
Go to www.yale64.org and scroll down the pages,
Then return to your hearth while the wind outside rages!

See you in June!
