Ted Jones '64 reports on the 2025 spring golf outing

July 16, 2025
All golf reports must start with a weather review and, happily, our gathering on June 3-4 was blessed with terrific weather for golf. The first day, in the mid-70s and sunny, was back at The Vue in Hamden, where we had played last fall and really liked the course. We had a turnout of ten true devotees: Mike Arons, Butch Hetherington, John Evans, Ted Jones, Dave Lindsay, Martin Padley, Chuck Post, Jan Truebner, and Steve Norman and his son. No one scored an ace, but everyone had fun and most seemed happy with their games.
For dinner that evening at Mory’s we also had ten around the table. Three golfers dropped out, but we were delighted to welcome Marcia Kalayjian, Melissa Padley, and Dottie Evans to the evening. The conversation was lively and interesting, and the spirits flowed generously.

The next day we had tee times at Orange Hills, west of New Haven. The six enthusiasts were Arons, Evans, Jones, Kalayjian, Lindsay, and Padley. The day turned out to be hotter and more humid as time passed. The first nine was more or less flat, but interesting, particularly the 8th, but your correspondent cannot comment on the back, as the heat and humidity had risen and the back, reportedly with more varied terrain, was cart path only. Several called it a day, with only Padley and Arons forging on, while the others repaired to the lounge for refreshment.
For the fall (Sep. 30 – Oct. 1), we have been graced by an invitation by Dave Kalayjian to play at his club in Clinton, CT. We already have 15-16 signed up. A second day will be at Lyman Orchard (finally, after two unsuccessful attempts), highly touted by Tully and Hetherington. We are excited by the prospect of two new courses and by Dave’s hospitality.
