Over the years, Tony Lavely (Class Secretary) and Sam Francis (webmaster) have been told by many in the know that “1964 has the best Class website around.” No argument here. Started in 1999 under the leadership of then-Class Secretary Tony Lee, the website has grown to 1,797 web pages and continues to grow. Classmates often say “It’s a treasure trove of Class history.” The website was spotlighted at the YAA Assembly in 2019.

On March 31, 2022, Tony signed a Deed of Gift which donated the website in its entirety to Yale University, to be housed in the Yale archives. Because the website is dynamic and continually expanding, Yale agreed to update those archives quarterly. Of course the website will also continue to be hosted on the web at www.yale64.org.

Earlier in March, Tony Lavely attended a Yale Zoom event, Yale University Library: Innovation at the Heart of the University, that featured Barbara Rockenbach, Yale University Librarian.

There is also a good deal of renovation going on at Sterling, as you can see by this rendering of the L&B Reading Room.

In her remarks, Barbara emphasized the extent to which the University is digitizing its collections. It opened the possibility of archiving, at Sterling, our already digitized history for the past 23 years. Of course there is also Howard Gillette’s seminal book, Class Divide: Yale ’64 and the Conflicted Legacy of the Sixties, that captures the early years.

When the archiving process has been completed, we will post the process by which you can access the Class of 1964 history. In the meantime, you can always go to the online website and browse or use the Search function to find any name or topic of your choosing.
