Edward Massey ’64 lauds a new development in New Haven

September 9, 2021

Edward Massey emailed the Mory’s luncheon group:

Dear Mory’s lunch classmates:

A few of you may remember that Anne and I tried to move to New Haven about two and a half years ago. It proved an impossible task, and we gave up. I swore one of my “If I were twenty years younger” epithets and then gave up the fantasy and moved to Norwalk. Well, my colleague, friend, and younger Yalie alumnus came up with a plan with his Whiffenpoof buddies that I share with you (see it here).

I send it to you for many reasons, but the principal one is that New Haven needs this kind of project. Of course, they needed the New Haven Ravens, too, and look at what a boon it has been to Manchester who recognized the fact.

Bruce Leppla is something of a polymath. Yalie, Whiffenpoof, M.A. in Economics, LLB, bank founder and seller, and Chief Financial Officer for the Whiffenpoof alumni organization. (Maybe I have the title wrong, but who would have thought a singing group had the prescience to have any kind of financial officer?)

I am not soliciting anything with this e-mail, except

  1. Your opinion. I know some in our Mory’s lunch group think it is a lousy idea. If you are among that group, let me know what it is about New Haven or the market that makes you think it.

  2. Your interest, if any, in potentially becoming an equity investor in the project. I will give your name to Bruce, and he will undertake whatever appropriate method of communicating with you. I do not have a financial interest in your response or any eventual investment. I may be an investor if my means and my retirement needs allow.

If you have any other response that you want to make, please do so.

I look forward to our next lunch. Edward
